Shiv Sena Force Shuts KFC & Meat Shops In Gurugram For Navratri, Go Enjoy Khichdi In A KFC Bucket Now
Whether you are a devotionally enlightened being or an atheist, twice every year we get updates about Navratras – either through late evening or early morning prayers, special discount offers and customized garlic and onion free menus. But, at times these aren’t reasons enough to remember the 9 days and given human nature, we tend to fall into the vicious trap of butter chicken or lamb burgers. Let’s be honest, not everyone follows the ‘no chicken no onion’ rule during Navratras, since I believe that everyone supposedly has the right to follow or not follow any particular religion.
Speaking of lamb burgers, I tried to put my culinary skills to use and decided to cook a mouth-smacking chicken dish to satiate my hunger. But, I received this shocking news that the Shiv Sena members have forcefully shut over 500 meat and chicken shops in Gurgaon and Haryana till Navratras are over. Wait…what? Yes, nearly 200 Shiv Sena members in Haryana forced meat shops in old Gurugram to shut down. Well, just like anyone else would think, I too chose to chuck the cooking plan and headed to the nearest KFC outlet and viola, the Shiv Sainiks have not spared it either. In fact, they have handed out notices to all the meat shop owners threatening to shut their outlets down every Tuesday in the future. Isn’t food supposed to be a personal choice? Maybe not! Who knows – oh, wait these people do!
While some might argue that eating vegetarian food for a few days isn’t a bad thing. It’s not about eating vegetarian food, it’s more about the fact that some factions in our society are taking it on their onus to decide everything for us, without our consent. “We have served notices to hotels, dhabas, eateries serving non-vegetarian food, apart from raw meat and chicken shop owners to keep shops shut during Navratri and on Tuesdays. One will have to face consequences in case he does not follow instructions,” the general secretary and spokesperson of Shiv Sena Gurugram, Ritu Raj told India Today.
As reported by India Today, the President of the Shiv Sena Gurugram, Gautam Saini said “We have asked customers of KFC to cooperate with us in vacating the place. We have forced employees to turn electricity off inside and pull shutter down for public.” Wow! Reportedly, the members of Shiv Sena gathered at Palam Vihar to forcefully shut down meats markets and Muslim dhabas. Then the markets in Surat Nagar, Ashok VIhar, Sector 5, 9, Pataudi Chowk, Jacobpura, Sadar Bazaar, Khandsa Anaj Mandi, bus stand and then Sector 14 market. Apparently, they have received a lot of support from local traders and administration. However, according to the report, Manish Sehgal, ACP (Crime) and spokesperson of Gurugram police said that he wasn’t aware of anything. Further, the meat shops with valid licenses are entitled to commercially operate and anyone forcing them towards closure will have to face legal action.
